The Brooklyn Women's Exchange is the oldest continuously-operating Exchange among the 25 remaining members of the Federation of Women's Exchanges in America.
The Women of the Exchange made "warm garments" for our soldiers in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War and World War One.
During the Civil War, the Abolitionist preacher of Plymouth Church, the Reverend Henry Ward Beecher, bought from the Exchange "coarse garments" to be distributed by benevolent societies to the poor.
Following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, the ladies of the Exchange made by hand a commemorative flag which is now part of the collection of the Brooklyn Historical Society.
We are a non-profit organization staffed by more than 30 volunteers and our Store Manager, Kate Rock. New volunteers are always welcome.
The Brooklyn Women's Exchange continually accepts new consignors after committee inspection for quality and appropriateness for our Brooklyn shop.
